COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD

Community Advisory Board (CAB)

OUR MISSION

The Community Advisory Board of the Comprehensive CARE Center (CCC) works to improve the quality of life for those infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS in the community it serves. We serve as a liaison between that community and the Center's Board of Directors to help plan, prioritize, coordinate and evaluate its programs and services.  The Community Advisory Board (CAB) seeks broad participation from the community it serves in the hope that its makeup will reflect that community.

WHO WE ARE

Our membership traditionally includes consumers (people living with HIV/AIDS), health care professionals and staff of the CCC, and families or friends who have been affected by HIV/AIDS. What unites us is a desire to help the CCC increase access to life-saving treatments and supportive services, assure adequate funding for treatment programs and prevent the spread of the disease.  Anyone interested in HIV treatment and care in the region is welcome to participate.

To ensure and preserve CAB members’ identity and anonymity, CAB members need not reveal their status.  Some people simply identify themselves as “community volunteers.”

CAB membership does not constitute a conflict of interest for those who also serve on local Ryan White planning groups.

WHAT WE DO

The CAB works with the Community Relations Committee (the Committee) of the CCC Board of Directors (the Board) to inform the community about the work of the CCC. Whenever possible, members of the CAB and the Committee provide information about the CCC at forums, health fairs, conferences, and other community events.   We also work with other CABs and organizations.

Through the CAB chair, who serves on the Board of the Directors, we alert the board to consumer needs and concerns, offer suggestions on ways to improve CCC operations and provision of services, and provide input, as appropriate, on policy or service changes that are being contemplated by the Board.

WHEN WE MEET

The CAB meets on the third Monday of each month at the CCC, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A meal is usually provided.  Members receive a meeting reminder and notification of the main agenda topic or speaker in advance. All who wish to attend are asked to RSVP the e-mailed meeting reminder or use the contact information below, so that staff can order an appropriate number of meals.
